South Africa Manufacturing Output Contracts 1.2%

(RTTNews) - South Africa's manufacturing output decreased for the second straight month in December, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Tuesday.

Manufacturing production dropped 1.2 percent year-over-year in December, slower than the 1.9 percent fall in November.

The largest negative contributions were made by the basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products, and machinery division and the motor vehicles, parts and accessories, and other transport equipment division, the agency said.

On the other hand, the largest positive contribution was made by the food and beverages division, where output grew by 5.8 percent.

On a monthly basis, manufacturing production decreased 2.4 percent from November, when it fell by 1.3 percent.

In the whole year 2024, total manufacturing production decreased by 0.4 percent compared with 2023.
