EQS-News: Energiekontor AG: SachsenEnergie acquires Würselen wind park from Energiekontor
EQS-News: Energiekontor AG
/ Key word(s): Disposal
SachsenEnergie acquires Würselen wind park from Energiekontor Bremen, 30 September 2025 – Energiekontor AG (“Energiekontor”), a leading German project developer and operator of wind and solar parks based in Bremen and listed in the General Standard, has sold Würselen wind park, put into operation in May 2025, to the German energy provider SachsenEnergie. The onshore wind park in question is the repowered Würselen wind park in the district of Aachen in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It has a total generation capacity of 18.0 megawatts. It benefits from an EEG feed-in tariff granted by the Federal Network Agency and was already put into operation in May 2025. SachsenEnergie NaturKraft GmbH, a subsidiary of the Dresden-based energy supplier SachsenEnergie AG, is the purchaser of the Würselen wind park. Even after the transaction, the park will still benefit from Energiekontor’s long-standing experience in operational management experience and optimisation support. Energiekontor planned and constructed the wind park more than 20 years ago. On the site of the former Aachen coalfield, Energiekontor replaced the three previous GE wind turbines, each with a generation capacity of 1.5 megawatts, with three new, more powerful wind turbines from the manufacturer Vestas, each with a nominal power of 6.0 megawatts. The new V150 turbines have a hub height of roughly 125 metres and a rotor diameter of approximately 150 metres. The average expected annual yield of the repowered park is around 41 million kilowatt hours – enough to supply more than 12,500 average households in Germany with renewable electricity and save around 31,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. “Repowering wind parks is an important part of how Germany can achieve its expansion targets. Replacing old wind turbines with new, more powerful models increases electricity production, reduces the impact on people and nature and makes wind parks fit for the future again. With this transaction, working together for the first time, Energiekontor and SachsenEnergie are sending out a strong signal in favour of sustainable renewable energies. Together, we are striving for more opportunities to cooperate,” says Peter Szabo, CEO of Energiekontor AG. “In the current financial year, we have already sold five projects with a total nominal output of around 115 megawatts, including this wind park. And we have further projects at an advanced stage of the sales process.” For energy supplier SachsenEnergie, the acquisition of the wind park is an important step in expanding its green generation capacities. This is also emphasised by CEO Dr Frank Brinkmann: “We are delighted to be expanding our wind portfolio geographically with the Würselen wind park and diversifying into other wind regions with a new partner. At the same time, the wind park supports our ambitions to further expand renewable energy generation.” Jens-Patric Hirtz, Head of the NaturKraft business unit, adds: “We remain open to collaborations. These help us to consolidate our planned growth and diversify. However, it is important to us that we achieve this growth through our own projects. That is why we are continuing to push ahead with project development in Saxony and beyond.” About Energiekontor AG For almost 35 years, Energiekontor has stood for a solid business policy and extensive experience in renewable energies. Founded in Bremerhaven, Germany, in 1990, the company is among the pioneers in its industry and is now one of Germany’s leading project developers. Its core business ranges from the planning and construction to the operational management of wind and solar parks in Germany and abroad. In addition, Energiekontor operates 40 wind and solar parks with a total nominal power of around 450 megawatts in its own portfolio. Around 200 megawatts, which are also earmarked for the Group's own portfolio, are currently under construction. Energiekontor also plays a pioneering role in economic terms and aims to realise the first wind and solar parks in all target markets at market prices as quickly as possible, independently of state subsidies. Along with its headquarters in Bremen, Germany, Energiekontor has offices in Bremerhaven, Hagen im Bremischen, Aachen, Augsburg, Berlin, Potsdam and Hildesheim. The company also has branch offices in England, Scotland, Portugal, France and the United States. Since being established, Energiekontor has a proud track record of realising more than 170 wind and solar park projects with a total nominal power of over 1.5 gigawatts. This corresponds to an investment volume of more than 2.3 billion euros. The significantly expanded project pipeline in the 2024 financial year (11.2 gigawatts excluding US project rights) shows the future growth potential and the possible contribution that Energiekontor can make to the expansion of renewable energies. Energiekontor AG (WKN 531350/ISIN DE0005313506/General Standard) is listed on the SDAX of the German Stock Exchange in Frankfurt. Shares can be traded on all German stock markets.
