Malaysia Inflation Remains Stable At 1.4%
(RTTNews) - Malaysia's consumer price inflation held steady in April after easing to a more than 4-year low in March, data from the Department of Statistics showed on Thursday.
The consumer price index, or CPI, climbed 1.4 percent year-on-year in May, the same as in April, which was the weakest inflation rate since February 2021. Meanwhile, economists had expected inflation to rise to 1.5 percent.
The annual price growth in food and beverages eased to 2.3 percent from 2.5 percent. At the same time, inflation based on housing and utilities rose somewhat to 2.0 percent from 1.9 percent. Data showed that clothing and footwear prices were 0.1 percent less expensive.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices edged up 0.1 percent in April.
